MISSION AND HISTORY
Mes Amis Canada is a Civil Society Organization (CSO) with headquarters in Toronto, Canada.
As a registered not-for-profit, Mes Amis Canada provides a platform which brings together, under one umbrella, our newest Canadians and those who want to know them and help them.
Mes Amis Canada’s mission includes engaging in local, national and international projects geared towards providing refugee assistance in the areas of education, social integration, health, employment and overall assimilation while increasing awareness and empathy.
JULIE MAHFOUZ REZVANI
Director, Product Management & Design
Julie Mahfouz Rezvani is the Managing Director of The Orion Group Inc, a boutique search firm headquartered out of Toronto with national and international clients. She previously held the role of Vice President of Sales for Direct Energy, a worldwide publicly listed energy retailer. Julie brings 15 years of finely honed business acumen coupled with strong leadership and team building experience to this role. Her compassion and desire to assist refugees is rooted in her Syrian-born husband’s family, many of whom still live in war torn areas of Syria. She sits on the Board of Directors for COSTI Immigrant Services and is the recipient of the Governor General’s Sovereign Medal.
Ayesha Vahidy is project engagement consultant who has held positions at Bell Canada, IBM, TDSB and Monster.com. She holds a degree in International Relations and is currently working towards a masters in International Development. She’s served as Program Director for Art Empowers, an initiative that ran art therapy programs for children from conflict areas and has helped fund and build a school for at-risk girls in Morocco.
Karen Scott is a Senior Program Manager/Project Manager with more than 15 years of experience working in Canada, Germany, and the USA with teams, business partners, and vendors from across the globe. Karen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from York University and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). Karen’s passion to assist newcomer Canadians has developed from her own resettlement experiences, but primarily from her transformational journey of the sponsorship of a Syrian refugee family for the last 18 months.

Shafaq Ahmad is a Toronto based lawyer with a background in real estate, privacy and health law. After completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto, she went on to complete a dual graduate law program at the University of Windsor and the University of Detroit-Mercy. From volunteering as a caseworker to supporting food and toy drives, Shafaq has been an active member of several charities in a variety of roles. As an individual with a deep belief in ethical and sustainable fashion, she is passionate about leveraging the fashion industry to support women to financial independence and self-sufficiency. She has been a long standing supporter of Mes Amis Canada and we are excited to have her join our team!
Volunteer Engagement Coordinator
Janika Oza is an educator with a passion for social justice and working with newcomer communities in Toronto. Over the past several years, she has worked to support the education and wellbeing of communities through teaching nutrition, movement, and art classes, building school and community gardens, and working as an elementary school teacher. She is currently the head of an afterschool program in one of Toronto’s most immigrant-populated neighbourhoods and leads the Education Committee of the Toronto Youth Food Policy Council, where she is committed to improving cultural responsiveness and accessibility in urban food systems. She holds an honours degree in Environmental Studies and French from Wesleyan University. Her work with Mes Amis Canada began with doing childcare for the Darzee women before joining the team as Volunteer Engagement Coordinator.
